Use the programme which can be found on the link ‘discipleship challenges’. The ‘worksheet’ will help you follow through anything you feel is right to take up. The following notes are for your interest and consideration.

Personal comment: There are times in my own life when I know that I have had to look hard at what I do and how I behave, and this means that I have had to talk to other people about what I perceive to be my problems. Of course, that is not the ‘done thing’ in some societies; but as far as I am concerned, it is God’s route to holiness, and it is a path I wish to follow simply because the Bible indicates that it is effective. In practice, I believe it is.

Ideas for discipleship programme

Thank You Lord, for love. Thank You for the different ways in which we show love to each other, within marriage, between parents and children, between friends, within the church and also to our neighbours in the wider world. Sustain us in the pleasure and duty of all our loving relationships, for the good of Your Kingdom; AMEN

Use these for group work, or to assist your personal reflection.

  1. How troublesome is bad language in the life of the church? Where is it most troublesome? What can be done about it?
  2. Discuss what you believe this passage means by ‘do not grieve the Holy Spirit’.
  3. How can Christians help one another to deal with sin? Give practical examples.
