Personal comment:

After reading this story, the questions we need to ask ourselves are whether we are trying to ingratiate ourselves into the social fabric of the world through what we do, as Lot did. If so, and it is something that we may only be able to give an honest answer to after considerable prayer, this is something that Satan will use to stifle our faith and our salvation. We must watch and be careful.

Ideas for discipleship programme

• Pray and ask yourself whether the situation of Sodom and Gomorrah is one which could arise in our own times. The cities of our world are places where great good and great evil come together. How can the church make a difference?
• In what ways can you pray and interceded for the nations and the cities of the world or work in mission to make a stand for good against the evils of the cities of our world? Discuss this with others.

Lord of all, carry away the burdens of our sin, we pray. Take them far from us and remove them to where they will no longer tempt us. We ask this boldly, knowing that Jesus died because of our sin, and confident in the knowledge that this work is Your saving will, Lord God. AMEN
