Use these for group work, or to assist your personal reflection.

  1. Is it appropriate for all people who have a call to Christian faith also to have a call to specific service in the cause of the Gospel?
  2. What does the word ‘conscience’ mean to you and how would you define it? What does it mean here?
  3. Does the explanation in the study help you understand what Paul means when talking about Hymenaeus and Alexander?

Use the programme which can be found on the link ‘discipleship challenges’. The ‘worksheet’ will help you follow through anything you feel is right to take up. The following notes are for your interest and consideration.

Personal comment:

Behind this passage, there is a sense of the urgency of the Gospel and the supreme important of fulfilling each call to minister in service. I find that this sense of urgency is simply not there within the life of most churches and it frustrates me! I pray for a recovery of that sense of urgency and responsibility for working together with the Lord in the proclamation of the Gospel AT ALL COSTS

Ideas for discipleship programme

God of glory and God of grace; show Your glory in our lives by doing great things amongst us, and show Your grace by enabling us to love each other without hindrance from the past or cultural preconditioning. Remove from our souls everything that would prevent us from fulfilling our true potential in You. Praise You, Lord Jesus Christ, praise You!
