Mark 1:16-20
16 As Jesus passed by the Sea of Galilee, He saw Simon and his brother Andrew casting a net into the sea, for they were fishermen. 17 Jesus said to them, ‘Come and follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.’ 18 They left their nets immediately, and followed Him. 19 When He had gone a little farther, He saw James, the son of Zebedee, and his brother John; they were in a boat mending the nets. 20 Jesus called them straight away, and they left their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired labourers and followed Him.
Mark 2:13-22
13 Jesus went out again by the sea, and the whole crowd came out to Him and He taught them.
14 As He walked on by, He saw Levi son of Alphaeus sitting at the revenue post. He said to him, ‘Follow me.’ And he got up and followed Him. 15 It so happened that as He reclined at table in Levi’s house, there were many tax-collectors and sinners eating together with Jesus and His disciples (for there were many who followed Him). 16 When the scribes and the Pharisees saw that He ate with the sinners and tax-collectors, they asked His disciples, ‘Why does He eat with tax-collectors and sinners?’ 17 When Jesus heard about this He said to them; ‘Those who are well have no need of a doctor, but those who are sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.’
18 Now the disciples of John and the Pharisees were fasting, and people came and asked Jesus, ‘Why do John’s disciples and the followers of the Pharisees fast, but yours do not?’ 19 Jesus replied to them, ‘Are you suggesting that the wedding guests fast while the bridegroom is with them? No! they cannot fast while they have the bridegroom with them. 20 But the time will come when the bridegroom is taken from them, and that is the day on which they will fast.’
21 ‘No-one will sew a piece of un-shrunk cloth onto an old garment, otherwise when it shrinks, the new will come away from the old and make an ever worse tear! 22 No-one pours new wine into old wineskins because the wine will burst the skins and the wine will be lost as well as the skins. Rather, new wine is poured into new wineskins.’
Matthew 10:5-15
5 These twelve Jesus sent out with the following commission: ‘Do not disperse yourselves among the Gentiles, or enter a town of the Samaritans, 6 but concentrate on the lost sheep of the house of Israel.
7 As you go, preach the good news that the kingdom of heaven is at hand. 8 Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse the lepers, cast out demons. You received without paying; give, therefore, without charge. 9 Do not take gold, silver, or copper in your belts, 10 no food-bag for your journey, or two tunics, or sandals, or a staff; for the labourer is worth his keep.
11 Whatever town or village you enter, search for one who is worthy, and stay with them until you leave. 12 As you enter the house, greet it. 13 If the house is worthy, let your peace come on it; but if it is not worthy, let your peace return to you. 14 If anyone will not welcome you or listen to your words, shake off the dust from off your feet when you leave that house or town. 15 Truly I tell you, it will be more tolerable for Sodom and Gomorrah on the Day of Judgment than for that town.
Ephesians 3:3-17
7 I became a servant of this gospel by the gift of God's grace given me through the working of his power, 8 and as the very least of all the saints, this grace was given me to preach to the Gentiles the limitless riches of Christ, 9 and to reveal to everyone the purpose of this mystery. This was hidden for ages past in God, who created all things, 10 so that through the church, the vast extent of God’s wisdom should be made known to the rulers and authorities in the heavenly world, 11 according to the eternal plan he has carried out in Christ Jesus our Lord. 12 We have assurance in Him and the right to have access to God by faith in Him, 13 so I therefore ask you not to be discouraged because of my sufferings for you, which are your glory.
